Contraindications - When Treatments May Not Be Suitable
Massage, facials, and lymphatic drainage are safe and relaxing for most people, but certain health conditions mean we cannot proceed (or must adjust the treatment) to ensure your safety and wellbeing.
This is not medical advice—always consult your GP if unsure. During booking/consultation, we'll discuss your health fully. If a contraindication applies, we'll reschedule or refund any deposit fairly.
Absolute Contraindications (Treatment cannot go ahead today – reschedule required):
- Fever, acute illness, or active contagious infection (e.g., flu, cold sores, impetigo).
- Open wounds, recent burns, or broken skin in the treatment area.
- Acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT), phlebitis, or severe blood clots.
- Untreated heart failure, unstable circulation, or severe uncontrolled high blood pressure.
- Active cancer or current cancer treatment (without explicit doctor approval).
- Acute inflammation or infection (e.g., severe dermatitis flare-up).
Relative/Local Contraindications (We may avoid certain areas, modify techniques, or use alternatives like plain grape seed oil instead of ESPA products):
- Skin conditions (e.g., active inflamed acne, rosacea flare, severe eczema/psoriasis, sunburn).
- Varicose veins, recent bruising, or injury/surgery in the area (last 6–12 months).
- Known allergies to essential oils, botanicals, fragrances, or other ingredients in ESPA products.
- Certain medications (e.g., blood thinners, steroids) or conditions (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy) – discuss for safe adjustments.
